Rainy day fan notes....
tonight's game with the FisherCats is a washout with better weather in the forecast for Tuesday night.
Joe Perez of the Bulletin tracked down three of last year's Defenders in the Atlantic League in a recent post on his blog: pitchers R.D. Spiehs (Somerset Patriots), James Garcia (Long Island Ducks) and OF Quincy Foster (Lancaster Barnstormers). I thought to give those Atlantic League rosters a look for anymore former Giants farmhands and came up one: catcher John Pachot from the first Giants Norwich Navigators team in 2003 is now playing for the Newark Bears. In Norwich that season John played 90 games with 4 HRs and 36 RBIs with a .266 AVG. The picture of John in the dugout is from April 27, 2003; a 8-7 victory over the B-Mets.

Former Nav pitcher josh Habel played for the Southshore Railcats in the Northern League last year. No word on this year, but league play doesn't begin until the first week of May.

I prefer affiliated ball, but the Bridegeport Bluefish seems to be quite popular around these parts. The biggest comment I hear is what a great presentation they have for the fans. The NH cutters don't seem to generate as much interest. After attending my first defenders game on Sat (caught the first 10 innings of the seond game), I have to say I was impressed. I'm freakin' pumped for this season, and will be even more so one some runners start crossing the plate.

The RailCats website indicates Josh is expected yo return this season. Josh's Navs Railcat team mate SS Jay Pecci will also return. Catcher Chris Curry played for Gary last year but no word on him.
