Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Hopped into my car tonight around 9:45 PM getting

out of work turned on 1310AM hoping to get at least a post game report. Well looking at the box score maybe everyone, fans (only an announced 1300) and players included, wanted to check out "American Idol" tonight as the game was played in less than 2 and half hours. Connecticut beats the B-Mets 3-1 at Dodd for their second win a row.

Geno Espinelli pitched a gem tossing 7 IP giving up only three hits, an unearned run, 7 Ks and only one walk. Justin Hedrick and Brian Anderson hold down the fort. Anderson gets his sixth save but as his his wont left the tying runners on in scoring position before getting the third out.

Defs got all their runs in the fifth down 1-0 thanks to some sloppy Mets defense. Simon Klink got on board via an error. Todd Jennings singled and Espineli layed down the sac bunt. Mark Mincozzi forced Klink out at home on a grounder back to the pitcher. Jennings then scored on a wild pitch to tie up the game. with Mincozzi moving to second. Brian Horwitz then hit an infield single to the third baseman who threw wildly to first allowing Mincozzi to score to put the Defenders up 2-1 and Horwitz to moved to second. John Bowker (2-4) then doubled into Horwitz for the final run of the inning and game for a 3-1 Connecticut lead.

Misc fan notes: EME goes 2-4 (avg .258) with a K. TI goes 1 for 4 with a K to raise his avg. to .207.

Nice night for baseball where was everyone?

A well pitched game got us home early for once. For kicks, I charted the Def's pitchers last night. Gino faced 25 batters and the first pitch was a strike to 20 of them. Hedrick and Anderson faced a combined 11 batters and threw first pitch strikes to 7 of them. Control does make a difference.

As to EME's night, first at bat was a weak GB to the pitcher, 2nd AB was hard hit, but off the pitcher for an infield hit. Cost him an RBI. 3rd AB, hard smash off the firstbasemans glove. Best swing of the night. Last AB, called third strike.

I missed last night and will miss tonight because I had to take my mom to Andre Rieu (pure torture) yesterday and I'm taking her to the Rock Cats tonight for Polish night. She's 89 and her parents were off the boat as they say. She hates baseball so we'll probably be out of there by 8....long enough to catch the polka band and eat some Polish food. Hopefully there will be some Polish chicks kicking around.

Great pitching performance yesterday, I hope the bats come alive tonight weather permitting. I'm going tommorrow morning... pity the player who gets stuck in the autograph booth tommorrow with all of those kids there.
