Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Defs jump out to a 10-0 lead and coast to a 10-5

victory over the BaySox today for their third straight win. Steve Holm was the hitting star going 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs including 3 of them on his 5th HR of the season. Alex Hinshaw got the win going six innings with 4 hits allowed and 3 runs, two earned all on a three run homer in the fifth. Hinshaw looked sharp in the time I was there.
BaySox pitching issued a total of 9 walks, balked in a run and also hit a batter to help the Defs build their 10-0 lead in just the first four innings.

Misc fan notes: The calendar may say June 6th but it felt like April 6th out there tonight. I bailed after 7-0.

Jake Wald left the game beating out a fielder's choice in the second. Todd Jennings ran for him and then entered the game to play third for maybe the first time this year. Mark Minicozi moved over to short for Jake. Defs bench getting a little short these days as that left only Alex Requena in reserve. Jenning doubled in a pair of runs in his first at bat and later picked up a couple of walks.

Call me crazy but if Eugenio Velez, who now has a 12 game hitting streak and has been on base in every game he's been, had started the season here I doubt the team would have the record it has. He went 1 for 4 tonight with a pair of RBIs and another two SB for 12 so far. Guy's good.
Another thing--why did Cox relieve tonight for two innings? Is he out of the rotation? And if so who is taking his place?

The Bulletin had previously reported Hinshaw was replacing Cox in the rotation, but Cox might be considered for a spot start with all the doubleheaders coming up. The rotation right now, at least as I understand it , is Broshuis, Espinelli, Perriera, Hinshaw, and McKae.
