Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

McKae-Gate the day after..............

well the sun rose and life goes on. Both the Day and Bulletin quote Mac and McKae as saying it's a Giants player development thing and once you hit 90 pitches after 8 innings you're basically done. Mac is quoted as saying he likes his job and that's it. And that's backed up in print by the Courant today in a roundabout way in it's story about ex-Thunder manager and Connecticut local Billy Masse who was canned by the Yankees in part for using pitchers too much, most notably prospect Phillip Hughes.
Mac is also quoted as saying Anderson isn't going to save every game he's in. So true, especially after last night. But Anderson sure seems to put guys on base in his appearances more times than not despite the 11 saves and the team was pretty quick to get someone up last night although Mac stuck with Anderson. When do you hook Anderson becomes the day after question? His stats so far this season:

23 IP with 24 hits allowed and 12 BBs issued, 10 earned runs given up, teams batting .276 against him to a 3.91 ERA, 18 Ks 1 win/2 losses 11 saves, and 3 BS. Last night's two homers were the first he's given up in 19 games pitched.

I don't have a problem with McKae coming out, but I have a lot of heartburn about Anderson staying in. I'm sure if asked, Machemer would cite player development. Getting experience working out of trouble and all that garbage. My burning question is when does developing a winning attitude and player development become a common denominator?

The fact that Anderson may have been rusty because he hadn't pitched in a week is Mach's problem. Couldn't he have pitched the 9th inning in the Bowie blowout instead of Peterson?

And I thought Machemer's quote, "because I like my job" was bush league. But I wouldn't expect much more from him than that.

My point all along is that winning is a part of player development. What kind of percentage is it becomes the sticking point.

The point about getting Anderson some work in the Bowie games is a real good one.

At least they win today; a loss today after last night would have been a real downer after the homestand started 4-0.

its truly unfair to get down on mac for following org orders regarding how to play certain guys...the org wants to see how anderson does in certain situations...aa and aaa managers have much less leeway in the use of players than in the lower levels...as for developing a winning attitude...blame not getting a winning team on the org...not mac...hopefully that will change soon.....fire sabean i say...
