Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

EL All-Star Game called due to foggy conditions..

in the top of the third with the scored tied at two. The fog rolled in around 5:30 and blanketed the field for the home run derby that started at 6:00. Well, the HR derby was scheduled to start at 6:00 but the stadium fire alarm kept going off with an automated P.A. announcement telling people to leave. It was a false alarm but got to be comical since ever time it seemed to have turned off Johnny Gill would begin to introduce a player and the alarm would go off again.
Anyway, the fog never left and once the game started it was a question of when, not if, the game would be called. Balls hit to the outfield proved impossible to field and a hard foul into the stands, especially over the dugouts, would have been pretty dangerous. Oh well....

Misc fan notes: Great meeting "BruteSentiment" whose day had started with last night's MLBB All-Star Game and was stopping over to the EL All-Star Game on his way to Boston. Pretty impressive he'd stop by. He's a good guy and has a wealth of player info. Drive careful!

Place was packed tonight. Great to see and everyone can exchange their stub for two additional games. Nobody has control over the weather but the front office has nothing to be down about.

A Def website put the crowd at 6500+ for the All Star game. Good job by the Def folks.

Real bummer about the weather. I think it hurt a great opportunity to showcase the yard to the new fans in attendance and the tv viewers.

The autograph thing was a bit of a mess.

They finally had a beer guy walking around. Four bucks for a 16 oz. bud, nice price.

Machemer impressed me with the way he carried himself throughout the evening. A few good photos including one of Dave are on milb.com.

For anyone from out of town that came to the game who stumbles onto Greg's blog please come back to the park....remember you can trade you stub for two games. Grab a room on priceline or stay at the casino and come check out a pair of games. Mystic seaport/aquarium is a nice day activity sandwiched between games.

Hi hear what you're saying lc but the way I look at it is:
a.) they filled the place
b.) the stubs are worth two admissions to remaining '07 games so they can get those folks back at best two more times
c.) I got there around 4:30 and the place was filling up pretty good and left around 8:30--4 hours at the yard is enough
d.) I think the auto session on the field could have gone on for hours but at least they set up another site on the fly to take care of some folks who might not have got one otherwise
e.) I think a lot of fans from the Navigators days were at the park judging from the hats and shirts being worn and hopefully those folks will return.
