Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Kelvin Pichardo promoted from San Jose to Connecticut

yesterday as reported on the San Jose Giants website and mentioned on McCovey's. A reliever with a 2-3 record and a 3.09 REA, three saves, in 29 games with 46.2 IP allowing 37 hits and with an eye catching 71Ks.
Not info on a subtraction from the Connecticut roster as of yet.

Pichardo increases the roster to 27 players. Subtract McMains and Ibanez who are on DL and it sounds like someone will be declared inactive prior to each game for a while. Even though McNiven, Espinelli, and Hinshaw have been pretty good as starters, their future looks like they will be relievers. It's hard to imagine the Giants farm system can't come up with at least one starter somewhere.

And if you look at San Jose and Augusta, the future for Norwich dosen't look too good either. Going to make it pretty tough to sell tickets if the Giants provide another second division team, I can't think of one "hot prospect" in the Giants system who might bless us with their presence next year. Does anyone think the Giants would have the testosterone to send EME or TI back?

Say good night Gracie

I think you are way too pessimistic about San Jose and Augusta. You could get 5 position players from SJ:
Copeland (OPS 882) OF; Witter (839) C; Richardson (743) OF; Maroul (770) RF; Bocock (632) SS;
and a couple of pitchers:
You already have McKae
Osegura (2.96 ERA).
There are also some possibilities in Augusta:
Burriss (745) SS; Sanders (668) 2b; Felmy (814) OF.
And they have several good looking pitchers, (altho they may not jump all the way to AA next year):
Sosa (.73 ERA); Pucetas (1.42); Snyder (1.89); Cowart (2.22); Tanner (3.11)

I don't believe one of the players you mention are considered a top notch prospect. Bowker types, maybe, but can't miss types, not a chance. And we've all seen too many Giant prospects come out of A ball and fall flat on their face in the EL.

This franchise needs a prospect that will draw people to the park and the Giants ain't got one. Plus, they never send anyone here for re-hab.

There's a lot of talk (and writing) locally about this franchise moving due to poor attendance. Lately, it's become completely negative and/or threatening. The truth is (IMO) that until this year a lot of the team management were not baseball professionals. Now they have people in place and you can feel the change in the atmosphere, but they need more then a year to make a difference.

There's a lot of reasons why this franchise is in trouble and the Giants are only a part of it. It's unfortunate that they have had such a weak farm system when it comes to position players. I'd like to see what would happen to attendance with a contending team before midnight arrives.
