Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Defs rally to beat Erie 7-5 tonight.....

I was there but saw little of the game as it was also my 4 year old grand daughter's first game. This meant chasing her from the left field berm to the right field berm with assorted stops in between for most of the game.

What I did see was Steve Holm's solo HR to put Connecticut up 1-0. And Carlos Sosa dropping a fly ball to start a five run Erie rally. And then Randy Ruiz hitting his first HR at Dodd as a Defender to pad the Connecticut lead to 7-5. And not much in between.

Misc fan note: Thanks to Trey Webb for signing a ball for Ashley and he had a big night.

what a great grandpa you are

nothing more special than bonding with a grandchild (or child) watching the game that you love (or not watching, as the case may be)

Thanks bacci40...

I guess Shane Turner had a different read on the Sosa error. I saw like the last second of the play and I thought he had called Jake off. The wind was kicking up pretty good at the time and I thought were we in for some t-storms. Neither Jake or Carlos have been playing much lately.
Shane said in postgame quotes that Wald is a better player than that and it was a one time thing.
But Turner did yank Jake for a pitch hitter to send a message to the team. I agree with the move and I like Jake a bunch.
The question is would Mac have done that? I'd like to think so.

The wind was blowing toward home plate on the ball Sosa dropped. With the revolving door infield and Jake being out of the SS postition for a while it was bound to happen. Nick had a no hitter going prior to that.

Trey Webb is a good ball player. Take away the first five weeks of the season he would have had a standout year. The kid is great on defense- and is always nice to the fans. Wish he would cut down on the K's a little. He was a rule 5 minor league pickup by the way.

And Mac probably wouldn't have had Klink pinch hit because he would have been starting. Klink hasn't started for a few games now. I think that is BS.

If anyone sees or talks to Mac tell him it ain't the same without him. Nothing against Shane, but it was nice to wave to Mac every game. It ain't the same without him.

When I was watching the Myrtyle Beach Pelicans this year at the beginning of the bottom of the first the manager would walk along the front row from first base to the third base box and hand out buble gum on the way to the coaches box. It is fun when the manager acknowledges the fans.

Steamer, after the starter is warmed up and is walking from the bullpen to the dugout always gives some random kid a ball. It's nice the the kid always goes nuts.
