Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team.
We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....
The following article was published in today's Bulletin and was written by Liz Mugavero. "Defenders General Manager Charles Dowd and Controller John Cunningham Friday presented a check in the amount of $381,814 to Acting city Manager Joseph Ruffo and Deputy Comptroller Joshua Pothier. The amount included about $210.000 in back rent payments owed to the city, interest payments, utilities payments, and some new bills. The city issued the Defender's a check in turn to cover the costs of their reimbursments."
This article, at least to me, clearly shows how the Bulletin doesn't give a hoot in Hell about the Defs. Is it unreasonable to be told a little bit about "some new bills" and maybe explain "the costs of their reimbursements." That last statement makes no sense to me at all and I spent my career in finance.
Although this article will have zero affect on the turnstile count next year, you have to wonder what other murky gems will be forthcoming from the Bulletin staff. Considering the lousy home schedule for 2008, the team is going to need a lot of help from the media.
Norwich — The Connecticut Defenders and city finance officials exchanged checks this afternoon and are now current on rent payments for the Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.
The minor league baseball team had fallen behind in rent by more than $200,000, but team officials had argued that the city also owed reimbursements for expenses the team incurred to replace broken equipment and for police coverage during games. The two parties reached an agreement earlier this month on the breakdown of bills.
Josh Pothier, deputy city comptroller, said the Defenders brought in a check for $302,277.85, and the city cut the team a check for $119,196.73 to cover the reimbursements. Pothier said one small reimbursement to the team remains outstanding and will be paid soon.
“We swapped checks, and we’re all up to date,” Pothier said.
i have posted here a few times that i think the park and the conditions have alot more to do with the player's poor performance than the quality of player the giants are sending, and i have gotten flamed for it.
but i think the proof is in the pudding, when you look at how guys like lewis, kfran, nate and ort have been doing since being called up (and playing on a regular basis)
and the belle aint no hitter friendly park
heres to hoping that bringing in the fences will make the park just a little more hitter friendly, and you fans are given a better team to cheer for.
i know this may be the last year of the defenders/giants agreement

Cripes, two articles and two different check amounts. This really is odd.
