Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

2008 roster

just swung up to the Defenders office and got a roster dated 3/28:

Pichers: Cowart, Martinez, McNiven, McKae, Broshuis, Hendrick, Matos, Palazzolo, Pichardo, Ray, Romo, Sadowski, and Waddell

Catchers: Witter, Buller and Gunther

Infielders: Denker, Klink, Ishikawa,Maroul, Minicozzi, Rosario, and Webb

OF: Copeland, EME, Richardson, and Sosa

The two names that are question marks are Ray and Buller as both are reported on SFHardball.com as being in Fresno.

Why are rosters so top secret?
They have been set since last Sat.
And why is the Defenders website so lame. They are still singing in the park when the team has been in town for 2 days. For that matter, not a mention or any promotion yet that I can see from the Day or Bulliton.
Real Excitment there.

Too be fair the Fresno and San Jose websites don't have their 2008 rosters up yet either but you're right in what you're saying. The Bulletin's beat writer is also covering the women's UCONN basketball team so he's with them right now. The Day is the Day. Usually there is an open practice the day before the home opener and no mention of that anywhere either.

From the looks of this roster you could be in for some exciting baseball. I saw Ray throw in the exibition game in Fresno and he can bring it from different angles.
Cowart will blow your mind.

My favorite quote about Cowart came from a coach in the organization. "The first time I watched him throw, I started looking around to see who was pulling the joke on me."

While the current version of the roster has been set for a few days, the uncertainty about it is that there are 27 names on it, including one guy who is currently 2,800 miles away.

Greg,

Joe here in Greensboro....I have the team release on my blog so you can see the roster as it will be for the opener.

You guys will see a lot more coming from the NB in the days to come, so no one should worry about our committment to covering the Defenders. I'll be back with them after I am done with UConn.

Keep an eye on Witter. I think the guy has potential, even though he split playing time last year with Sandoval. He is pretty fast for a C, has a bit of power and, though I am not an expert on Cs, seems better than avg defensively.

Looks like we have a good pitching staff. Curious as to who the closer will be.

I think I'm going to keep my eye on Copeland. I heard he was one of the higher up players in San Jose last year, and any time I heard of san jose, i heard his name too.

Michelle - Good call on Ben. He's got as much ability as anyone on the roster this year, and he's a really nice guy to boot. If you want a look at what he's working on this year, I ran an interview with him the other day at http://sfgiants.scout.com/2/742082.html
(Greg - if you don't want me linking to stuff on the site, just let me know! Even if it's okay, I won't do it very often.)
