Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Another look at the new road uniforms as

modeled by Brad Boyer in a shot featured in The Patriot News. Like to get some shots of those. Looking at the schedule the Defs go on the road twice against NB May 27-29 and July 4-7. Wednesday May 28 is at 10:35AM so there will be a million kids there but that's still tempting. The other option is New Hampshire June 17-19 or August 1-3.

Pet Peeve 101: I wish (a) the Defs web site would list the projected pitching matchups for a given series in advance of it and (b) at least post today's on gameday. I think Joey Martinez is scheduled but he seems to have disappeared off Connecticut's roster on baseballamerica.com and milb.com player listing. As usual my computer refuses to pull up the Defs roster off their homepage. Any help?

Go to the day game, it is not half as bad as you think. All of the close seats are empty, and traffic isn't bad as the kids are mostly gone by the end of the game. I'll go wit ya.

By the way check this out

Austin Jackson writeup by wtnh. I heard it was a video story but WTNH doesn't have a link to the video. If the link doesn't post on here properly just go to the wtnh.com sports page.

I'm going to contact the writer next week and try and get him to do a quick plug of a Defenders player, my pick is Cowart. The 2007 D's put 3 guys on the Giants, where is the love from TNH?

(WTNH) _ An outfielder for the Trenton Thunder, the Yankees AA farm team, is a top prospect for the New York Yankees.

"If you see him play you'll see right away he's a pretty good athlete," said Trenton's manager, Tony Franklin.

But what makes Austin Jackson so good?

"Speed, good arm, good instincts, can hit, can throw. What else do you want from a good baseball player," Franklin said.

And he loves the game. Jackson's smile is as big as the state of Texas, his home state. But the heat of being the New York's prized possession has not gotten to him.

"There's already enough pressure on baseball players, if you play the game like that it will eat you up. You can only do what you're capable of doing, you're only one man. You can't try to save a universe or anything like that," Jackson said.

Jackson was drafted right out of high school just a few years ago. He was an all-state baseball and basketball player and signed a letter of intent to play both sports at Georgia Tech.

"I had my mind made up to go to go play college basketball and baseball," Jackson said.
"And what changed it?"
"I talked to my parents and coaches and people that have played dual sports and they said it was hard," Jackson responded.

But playing in the Bigs isn't easy either and at times, Jackson makes it look that way. The closer he gets to the Bronx, the more attention he'll receive.

The Austin Jackson story is a good example of how fractured the reporting is in this state. The Courant has a nice story on RockCat Luke Hughes in today's paper. Love for the Defs? None. And a good fan like lc needs to reach out. What efforts does the team put forth and why don't we get any "outside" ink?

BMETS website ("game notes") has Martinez as the starter, but I don't wee him on the Defenders roster anymore either, nor do I find him anywhere else. Perhaps the Nashua Pride selected him as a compensation pick for Rosario and the tall dude.

Know it won't help much, but last transactions I saw said Martinez was back to Extended Spring training as of a few days ago. However, since it's so fluid, who really knows? Hoping Sergio plays soon [luckily he's still on the roster!]

With tonight's rain out, Cowart will probably start on Saturday. I wish the Defs would get a meaningful Web Site which keeps fans current with all the player transactions.

I'm not trying to defend WTNH, but when has Ct (Norwich) had a top Giants prospect lately? Last one I remember was Cain. None of the guys from last year were "top prospects."

The new "road uni's" look pretty neat.

My Mrs. makes her 2008 debut tomorrow so come on by and tell how well behaved I am this year.

LC...I didn't know you were an imbiber!

why is milb now managing the defenders site? were they finding it too expemsive to run it themselves?

It was never explained why milb.com is hosting it. However if you look around there are other teams that do it as well.
The Thunder have a good one that run themselves.

Yeah! I wanted to buy my daughter a defender sweatshirt from online team store but it doesn't exist anymore. You have to physically go there or buy from milb. I agree that the Thunder does a good job.

Does't look like MILB has defenders gear either. I think the person doing the web site last year left the team.

Nate Bump on the roster now? Interesting. And Sharpless too.

Listening in on the net to the game right now, Matos coming in to close....................

Palazzolo on archived CBS story.

Google or yahoo "Steve Palazzolo gyroball."

Interesting stuff on the net about Steve and the work he puts in to his mechanics. Link won't post properly but you can find it.

Great job by the pitching staff tonight- and a run in for the offense on just two hits. So much for the offensive barage I was expecting.

Carp will play Sunday- I'm looking forward to him matching up against Cowart. Portland won, Rock Cats lost, and Trenton is losing in the 8th.

Thanks to hondo and lc about the roster status of four Connecticut pitcher (see above).
Really makes me feel good when that info appears here first in lieu of the various other outlets out there.
Thanks!
