Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Congrats Travis Denker! As the first Defender from ...

this year's class of 2008 is called up to the Giants. Eugenio Velez was sent down to Frenso from SF. Travis started the season here playing in 25 games batting .184 (14 for 76) with 6 RBIs. In Fresno he was batting .303 (10 for 33) in 11 games with 3 RBIs.
While I'm happy for Travis getting there, I really don't understand this move. Some folks on McC suggest it's a 40 man roster type of situation and others are just happy Velez is out of SF for now.
Now, against the backdrop of Bien's comments about Dodd, how many of today's Connecticut hitters are thinking, "get me out of here to Fresno so I can have a couple of good weeks at the plate and maybe get to the bigs" and then factor in the GM not wanting to send Pablo here it makes for a potential mess the balance of the season.

I'd add one word..... between potential and mess, insert "bigger."

Denker had 25 K's in 76 AB's here and hit lights out in the PCL. One was an aberration and I'm betting it was the PCL.

greg,

you asked that if the giants had placed a premium on winning in the minors, how about the org sending up more of the top tier guys from sj (they are leading the league in ba btw)...the question remains, can those guys, including pablo continue their torrid hitting in an extreme pitcher's league...i dont know, and im not sure the org knows...i am sure that some guys will indeed move up at the break, if the sj squad wins a playoff spot in the first half.

as to what i would like to ask bien..i havent a clue...i know the team is now 2 games under 500, but that is alot better than last season, when they were mired in or near last place all season. i might ask him about his coaching philosophy

vonschell,

garrett not injured...does this mean more movement within the pitching ranks? i woulda thought that mckae would go down and someone like english up...i hope this is not a move towards a total release of garrett from the org...guy doesnt deserve that
