Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Long, wet, damp, muggy, losing baseball night...

as the Defs drop a totally forgettable game 4-1 to the Curve at Dodd tonight. A one out walk by Nate Bump (0-3) followed by a double to left field that EME finally got to led to a quick 1-0 Altoona lead in the top of the first. The Curve picked up a couple more in in the third on a run scoring wild pitch and a RBI single for a 3-0 advantage and that's all she wrote.
Bump ended up going 3.1 IP allowing 4 runs on six hits and walked four. Josh Sharless, Justin Hedrick and Brooks McNiven mopped up.
Like last night the Defs had chances, leaving 12 men on base, but could only muster 6 hits. Adam Witter goes 2-4 with a double and a RBI single and AR goes 2 for 4

Misc fan notes: Just a tough game to watch in a steady dizzy tonight. The games Bump starts seem to take forever.
Wish Bien would figure out a way to get Kyle Haines into these games against NL teams!

Happy Father's Day Sunday! I'll be with my family tomorrow and will be back at Dodd next Friday.

Greg,

I love reading your blog, its great to see where players started in the minors and made their way up to the majors especially with a team that in past years had been loaded with high priced vets.

On another note, do the Defenders have some sort of mail order or have plans for a website for their apparel? I know a few Giants fans that wouldn't mind buying a Cap or Jersey and wearing them to AT&T.

They were selling stuff on the website but in seems to be taken taken down. If you contact them directly they should be able to take care of you. If not, LMK what stuff, sizes you're after and I'll give you prices etc. Heck I'll even take picturrs of the stuff for you.

The only thing available on milb.com is a cap? Come on, that's pretty lame.

I see where Chris Duffy is back in Altoona, he was the starting CF'er for the Bucs not too long ago.

Glad too see my buddy Pedro Powell got to flash his speed a little Saturday- I watched the Bucs spring training so I got too see the Curve players alot in the minor league spring games. Nady got hurt so there may be a little movement, hopefully Nyjer Morgan gets called back up.

Steve Palazzolo had a bad outing in Fresno. I think Hedrick or Matos deserve a shot in AAA as much as a few of the righties in AAA. They've done their time.
