Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

My computer nearly died and it's time for another...

(I back everything up anyway based on another prior bad situation). Any thoughts out there as to another? I'm running with a Dell desktop Dimension 8200 that about 8 years old. Should I look for a computer that still run XP or is Vista safe enough yet? Laptops are not an option.

Regarding your questions about computers......Huh!

Joe Perez has a nice article in today's Bulletin about the Def BatBoy, Jerrod Allen, which everyone should read.

Went through Comcast's entire TV schedule for this evening and the AA All Star game isn't being televised. I thought either CN8 or NESN would pick it up. Guess NESN gets too much loot replaying Red Sox wins. Maybe even with a Papelbon save?

Greg,

I'm a big fan of XP but it is being discontinued (although the software/patches, etc will still be available for a few more years).

I got a dell laptop last year with Vista and havent had any problems, I guess if you're not running anything crazy it should work fine -- but thats just my two cents!

I am running an old Dell, about 4 years old. Sadly everything you buy new now is going to be Vista. Within a year or so, it's going to be the only thing you CAN have, which means I will either have to upgrade, or buy a new system. If buying a new system right now is kind of out of reach, many places can rebuild your system with refurbished items. Geek Squad actually did a partial rebuild for my brothers computer. Motherboard, Ram and videocard, all refurbished items.

Walmart has good computers?? I never though to ever look there. How much do they run, because I was thinking of getting a new system before going off to college. I don't think they sell laptops though right? And Im sure coverage on fixing a laptop is alot harder sing as my brother is having issues getting his alienware laptop fixed.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK AROUND THERE.
