Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Can the team hit 200,000 in attendance?

After yesterday the Eastern League website has the team drawing 175,226 in 61 gates for an average of 2,872 (#11 of 12 teams).
Last year for the season they drew 170,634. To hit 200K they need to draw 24,774 for the remaining six gates left or an average of 4,129 per game. The last homestand runs from Tuesday to Sunday, August 19 - August 24 against Southern Division teams Akron and Erie.
Can they do it? IF they draw 3,000 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and 6,000 on Friday and Saturday with 4,000 on Sunday, yes they do. Pray for no rain and turn in all those vouchers laying around collecting dust.

I'm thinking they will hit around 190,000 or so. Which still is an improvement over last season. They already are over last seasons attendance which is great that it has been going up every year since it switched to the Defenders.

Hi Greg,

I've been visiting your blog for a couple of years. I keep on meaning to drop by and say hello, but this blog doesn't have OpenID and I never got around to signing up for blogger. Well today I was posting on my blog (http://minorgiants.wordpress.com/) about a new Augusta Greenjackets blog and figured it was about time for me to pop over and say hi. So keep up the good work, and if there's one reason for the Giants to keep the Defenders as its affiliate, its your blog and the fans who regularly post on it.

Ahhhh.... as I remember a year ago, attendance reached 198K +/-. I distinctly recall Tony sitting with us on the last day and he was pretty upset they came so close, but fell short.

Just a sick play by Haines! He's a tremendous competitor. On the other hand,Olmo seems very apathetic about his defense. How about that E at second yesterday. Or some of the angles he takes in the outfield... Yikes!

Yeah Greg, Skip is right here. The Defenders had an announced attendance last year of 195,235 for 65 games, to average 3,003 per game last year. It looks like they are going to be very close to that total, but less of an average.
