Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team.
We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Congrats Ryan Rohlinger! First MLBB hit and RBI
as he doubles home Randy Winn with two outs in the 7th inning off Astros pitcher Randy Wolf; Astros up 6-2.
Just checked EL transactions; Maday back to Augusta & Bump activated from DL. Who are the starting five now?
The Rohlinger & Sandoval call up appear almost like a panic move by the Giants. From A ball to Major League in one season is a stretch, especially someone as young as Pablo. If they struggle, it could hurt their confidence down the road. Rohlinger had a RBI double, but he also had 2 errors tonight. Case of nerves probably, but it could escalate and that will serve no good to Ryan or the Giants.
Took a quick look at the comments on McCovey's and 95% of it is nonsensical fodder.
rohlinger and sandoval are a knee jerk move in order to placate many of the lunatic fringe...and i agree with hondo...to me, its just more proof that the org has no clue how to develop players and rebuild
but the giants just signed both crawford and posey
there are two weeks left to the season, and neither would be slated for a ball
so you guys may end up getting two future stars for the remainder
It's not a panic move by the Giants, it's a move for the future. This is what a youth movement looks like, and sadly the affiliates are on the losing end of it. In the end, though, the needs of the organization will always take precedence over the needs of a minor league team, and right now the Giants need to figure out which of these players can hit at the major league level.
And Bacci, I don't know how you're in any position to cast stones. You ARE the lunatic fringe.
James, if you really believe what you wrote then please explain why the Giants couldn't have waited until after Labor Day to figure out things. If Pablo and Ryan go into the tank and it affects them throughout their careers, what has been accomplished? There is no intelligent logic to justify moving them from A League to the Majors in one season, especially someone as young as Pablo. What he does this season is irrelevant, it's what happens to him in the future that is important. His maturity level is a long ways from his talent and he needs both to succeed in the Big Leagues. They should have either left him in Ct or moved him to Fresno.
I agree with your comment that he should have been left in AA. In fact I had written on my blog that I would much rather have him called up after September 1st as that wouldn't burn an option (if I remember my option rules correctly). I guess what I disagreed with was your categorization of it as a panic move. I don't think there's any panic to it. The Giants legitimately want to see how these prospects will do with 100 or so major league at bats. The reason I'm not worked up over the callup is because the Giants' season aren't going anywhere, and now is as good of a time as any to sit the veterans and test these prospects' mettle. And I don't buy the confidence argument. Rookies are called up from AA every year for a cup of coffee in September-- and players younger than Pablo at that. And it's not like the Giants are in a heated pennant race. They'll be playing in mostly low leverage games with few things at stake. I don't see this as harming their development.
I guess we can agree to disagree, but I believe going from A to the "bigs" in one season is too much for a young player. My concern is more for Rohlinger then Pablo. Pablo may be OK, because he might be that good.
If I change "panic" to "highly questionable", would we be closer to an accord?

Greg,
Awesome job on this exciting night for two guys that were in Norwich on Sunday! Thanks for the updates.

Thanks ar! While this probably kills our playoff chances I'm really rooting for all three of these guys to do well.
