Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Different day and game but basically the same...

as yesterday as the Defs jumped out to a 3-0 lead on homers by Simon Klink, a two run shot (#3) in the first inning and a solo homer (#11) by Olmo in the second inning only to lose it by last night's score 4-3 in Trenton.
Like last night, the Thunder chipped away and tied the game up and then won it in the bottom of the ninth. Ben Snyder started and went 6 IP allowing two runs and ten hits. JP (5-5) takes the loss as Brooks McNiven almost pitched his way out of the jam but gives up a game winning single. It was McNiven's first appearance with CT since the Olympics.

Misc fan notes: I overlooked that last night's loss meant the team was guaranteed of a sub .500 season. Since the Giants became the affiliate of the Navigators/Defenders in 2003 the team has never finished above .500.

greg, was reading what dibella had to say about the location of the park being a detriment, and that may or may not be true...both the inland empire 66ers and the rancho cucamonga quakes teams of the cal league, have their parks built off of industrial parks...but not so far out in the boonies that you cant get there...and they have very good attendence...i do believe that the giants havent given ct much to work with or root for, and that is as a result of the sabean philosophy in regardst to the minors...however, there is a new face of the org in neukom, and maybe (god willing) there will be a new gm...shoot, for the first time that i can recall, the front page of the big club's website is heralding the achievments of the minor league clubs and players...and that is a huge step in the right direction

and greg, i want to say this for the umpteenth time...i dont think there is a better blog covering the goings and comings of a local milb team than yours...even if the giants dont stay, i will be keep coming back, cuz i just love reading stuff from people who really love the game

btw, did you get a chance to take the granddaughter to a game this season? dont know if that was already asked and answered (im getting old too)

i took my nephew to a (uggh) dodgers game...and there is nothing better than watching the game through the eyes of a child

i cant believe that sept is almost here...i liked life much better when time moved much more slowly

heres hoping that the defenders end off the season on a winning note

They are ending the season the way it started; lots of K's, no clutch hitting, and spotty pitching. In between there was Pablo.

Thanks bacci for the kind words. I've tried finding similar "fan" minor league bb blogs like this one and really have not found many to compare it to. It's something I enjoy doing although I wish I could report on more wins than losses and also a playoff series once in a while would be nice.
My granddaughter didn't make any games this season as her parents had her busy with t-ball, dance class, summer stuff, etc. Her fav player remains Trey Webb.
Hondo's view of the club is one I share but I'd throw TI in there as well.
