Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Thunder take the rubber game 3-1 tonight at Dodd..

as the Defs waste a solid pitching effort by Ben Snyder (1-4). Snyder goes 6 IP allowing 3 hits, 5 Ks and the run was unearned. A leadoff walk in the top of the fifth led to the only run off Sndyer. The next batter hit a hard grounder to second but the field umpire partially screened 2B Dave Maroul who booted the ball putting runner on first and third with no outs. Ben stuck out the next two batters and then picked off the runner at first who stayed in a run down long enough to allow the runner on third to score for a 1-0 Thunder lead.
Meanwhile George Konos was cruising thru 7 innings of shutout ball as the Defs ran themselves out of one rally in the second but couldn't do much else against the Trenton pitcher.
Kevin Pichardo came on and gave up a couple of insurance runs to Trenton with one run being unearned via another Maroul error.
The Defs finally broke thru on a Olmo double and an EME infield single in the bottom of the ninth but Sosa stuck out to end the game.

Misc fan notes: Mike Mooney made his Defender debut as DH going 0-3 and batting 8th in the lineup.
Picked up a new Navigators cap in the giftshop for $5. A fitted cap the guy at the counter said that had just found a bunch of them "in back" recently.
"Rally" was the the guest mascot providing the between innings entertainment and there were some amusing bits. Our favorite remains the "ZooperStars" however. Would love to see them back one day!
Pisc are Rally, Konos,and Mooney
