Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Dan Griffin strikes out all 6 batters he faces...

in Game 2 of today's double dip.
Can't say I didn't lead off with good news. New Hampshire takes both ends of the DH 4-2 in Game 1 and 5-1 in the second game. FisherCats had four home runs on the day--who says you can't hit the long ball at Dodd?
Neither CT starter had much Nick Pereria in Gm1 and a spot start by Jesse English in Gm2--which was played in the rain for the full 7 innings. I retreated to the warmth of Lou's Lounge for the "nightcap."
In Game 1 Mike Mooney's bases loaded clearing double accounted for all of Connecticut's runs and EME had a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to spoil a complete game shutout win for NH's starter Randy Boone. Mooney's double was the only extra base hit on the day for CT which produced 4 hits in game 1 and seven singles in game 2.
Waldis Joaquin and Steve Edlefsen both pitched for Connecticut today getting their first action in a week.
Pics: (Before it started raining it was a pretty nice day) from top to bottom : Waldis Joaquin, Sharlon Schoop, AR and Brock Bond.

Bothersome issue: In nine official A/B's in the two games, Def lead off hitter put the ball in play on the first pitch four times. All were outs. I had left by the time he had his 9th A/B. so I don't know what the deal was there. I thought a lead-off hitter was supposed to work the pitcher.

Another issue sticking in my craw. Norwich announced an attendance of 1100+ today of which 1000+/- were season ticket holder no-shows. New Britain announced 6400+ of which 6000 were school kids. This is why Dowling's cash register is jingling and our franchise is heading to Richmond. Louie never got it, not from day #1.

Nestor Rojas is listed on Fresno's roster as a catcher as is Hinshaw who just got sent down from SF.
Can't find anything about Witter being called up.

That's the second big crowd so far this season at NB. They have found a way to tap into the school systems there that the Navs/Defs of recent years have not.

Defs web site confirms Witter is now in Fresno. Wonder if this is the prelude to Posey coming to Ct?

Mike Musgrave pitching for the Defs tonight. Anyone know, did he come up from San Jose?
