Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Mid term grades....last night was the mid point game (#71)

of the 142 game EL season. Defs are 40-31 and in first place in the Northern Division by 2.5 games. I have never done this before and I'm going with my gut on these ratings, first instinct, without explanation after watching 30+ games so far. So here we go in alphabetical order:

Tim Alderson--B
Brock Bond--B+
Brad Boyer--C
Madison Bumgarner--B
Brandon Crawford--C
Jesse English--C+
Bobby Felmy--C
Geivy Garcia--D
Dan Griffin--D
Waldis Joaquin--C-
Tyler LaTorre--B
Darly Maday--B+
EME--B (God help me)
Mike McBryde--B-
Brooks McNiven--C
Mike Mooney--C
Mike Musgrave--C-
Dan Otero--B
Joe Paterson--B+
Brett Pill--B+
AR--Incomplete
Sharlon Schoop--B
Ben Snyder--A-
Henry Sosa--A-/B+ (I can't make up my mind, he's 6-0 after all)
Jackson Williams--C-
Adam Witter--Incomplete
Matt Yourkin--B

One guy who is trending south fast is Crawford. One guy who I'd like to see play everyday is Schoop and guys I'd like to see more often are LaTorre (especially), AR and Witter (who seems lost here).

Tim and Madison should stay here the full season.

Next point of business is why they need Ramon Castro, another infielder who wears #40?

I have to give Sosa an A because, as you stated, he is undefeated and you don't do that on luck alone.

He should join Pill as certain All-Stars for the Defenders.

Waldis apparently also hit 100 on the gun last night, according to the radio announcers who said they saw a smile on MBums face as he was charting pitches and they're pretty certain they saw 3 red lights go on, on the scouts' radar guns

Hondo's thoughts.

EME gets a C, nothing higher until he starts hitting to the left side consistently.

Williams B- His defense has improved quite a bit, evidence that he's working at it. And he's hitting a little of late.

And Decker gets an A-. He's made a difference.
By the same token, Grimsly gets a D, he's not impressed me at all. I truly believe Steamer would have gotten something out of this bullpen.

Castro was in Indy ball last year at Newark. He DH'd last night. Nothing much, but may have a little "pop."
