Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Defs win 7-2 behind Madison Bumgarner's...

8 IP of 4 hit ball. Madison gave up a run in the first on two hits and settled down the rest of the way giving up just two more hits, no runs with 5 Ks. His record is now 5-1 with a 1.96 ERA. His effort gave the bullpen some much needed rest after last night's 13 inning game.
CT scored all 7 runs in the first three innings with four runs in the first inning. CT had 11 hits in the game and seven were for doubles--that's the way hitting in Dodd should be!
Bobby Felmy (double, RBI) Brett Pill (two doubles, RBI) and Brandon Crawford (double 2 RBIs) all had two hits each. Ramon Castro in his Defender debut went 1 for 2, a double of course, and also walked and was HBP.
Defs take 2 out of three from the Seadogs. Nice crowd tonight--3900.

You ready to up MadBum from a B? Sure he doesn't look pretty doing it, but the results are indisputable

I was able to catch my first game at Dodd in some time this year, my 5th overall which is low considering I usually see 20 or so a year either alone or with parents or friend. Good to see Crawford at the dish tonight and get two hits. I certainly was not expecting him to start though. Seems like every CT hit was double tonight.
Side note: Kelvin Pichardo is listed as pitching for the AZL Giants

Lots of stuff tonight.
11 hits, 7 doubles. 33 hits, 14 doubles for the series. That's how too play Dodd.

Bumgarner.. 1st pitch strike to 17 out of 27 batters. It made a big difference. He's learning how to pitch. Best outing of the year.

EME.. a nice sliding catch in RF on Iggy Suarez in the 5th inning. And a RBI double to left-center!

Gabbard... the worst pitching performance I've ever seen at Dodd in all my years. 7 walks. And he was in the "bigs" last year. Got to be an injury issue I'd guess.

I was surprised at the announced attendance. Looked like about 4400 to these old eyes.

The run given up in the 1st inning a bit tainted. Pill should have had a play on Jimenez's hit. Looked like he gave up, something that was suggested to me earlier in the series on a similar play.

Couple of comments on 1st half grades forthcoming. Too damn late to do it now.

The ball hit to Pill on the first may have required a throw to Mad Bum. who was backing up home plate on the play. But I still don't know why either him or Brock Bond did not dive to hold the runner at third. Coincidentally, Bumgarner gets a double play to end the inning with the next batter.
