Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

423 people in the stands last night to watch..

the host Jamestown Jammers lose to Hudson Valley 10-4. Jamestown has the third worst attendance in the NY-Penn league with an average of 1506 per game after 15 home games. Batavia is second worst with an average of 973 after 12 home games and Oneonta is worst with an average of 765 after 10 home games.
Jammers are the team mentioned as perhaps "replacing" the Defenders next season at Dodd. Can anyone explain that logo to me? Are there wine vineyards in Jamestown?

The team was founded in 1994, when the Niagara Falls Rapids relocated to Jamestown. The Jamestown Expos had left the city after the 1993 season, relocating to Vermont. The new team was named the "Jammers" after a fan vote, with the winning name beating out others such as the All-Americans, Furniture Makers, Jimmies, Lakers, Lucys, Muskies and Steamers.[1] The team's logo was a Tasmanian Devil-esque character. The mascot was a similar character named J.J. Jammer.

In the offseason before the 2006 season, in an attempt to put an end once and for all to the "what is a Jammer?" questions, the Jammers changed their logo to a cartoon grape theme. The new logo represents the strong tradition of grape-growing in Chautauqua County. On June 19, the eve of opening day, the team officially announced the name of its new mascot: Bubba Grape, the Baseball Ape.

I've finally accepted the fact that in a few short weeks, Double A ball will cease to exist at Dodd Stadium. We fans will have to decide how to fill the void beginning next April. I believe there are three choices.

Look to the Northwest and New Britain. In spite of record attendance this year, I'm sure they'll be able to accommodate a few more fans.

If it materializes, return to Dodd for Single A ball and a short season team beginning play in June.

Find another interest.

I've been watching Double A ball in Connecticut since the '70's, so I know what my choice will be.
But I am getting fed up with the the formal announcement being dragged out. Get it finalized so each of us can begin the healing process. Hell, the English even showed mercy to Braveheart and beheaded him. The nabobs have been gutting the Ct. fans all season; it's time to end the ordeal.

I'm sure the EL is planning a showcase press conference in Richmond for announcement and is taking it's sweet time about it.
