Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Congrats Brett Pill.....EL Player of the Week!

From the EL office today:

"Connecticut Defenders first baseman Brett Pill has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending September 7th. The 6’4”, 211 lb. slugger had an excellent week for the Defenders, batting .382 (13-for-34) with two doubles, four home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, three walks and a .794 slugging percentage over nine games. Pill, who also took home the award earlier this season for the week ending July 5th, had at least one hit in all but two of the games he played in last week and drove in multiple runs in four of those games, including going 3-for-6 with one double, one home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a 6-5 win over New Hampshire on Thursday. With his performance last week the San Dimas, California native pushed his season total in RBI to 109, which led the league and is the highest total by an Eastern League player since 1999. He also finished among the league leaders in total bases (253-2nd), hits (157-3rd), doubles (37-3rd), extra-base hits (57-3rd), slugging percentage (.480-4th), home runs (19-tied 4th), OPS (.828-tied 5th) and batting average (.290-6th). Brett, who turns 25 this Wednesday, was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the seventh round of the 2006 draft after hitting .328 as a junior at Cal State Fullerton University."

Put a big charge into section 11 yesterday. Best player in franchise history? A discussion for a winter's day perhaps but you can sure make it.

The argument should be who's the 2nd best player in franchise history and to me it's between Pill and Bowker. The best, even though he was only here a short time was Pablo. He not only was good on the field, but he changed the clubs enthusiasm for the game.

The argument for # 2 is a little more complex. I think the numbers might favor Pill, but let's remember, he had a lot of help in that line up. Bowker was on his own with not a lot of support.

Its a good point Hondo but Sandoval cant get it because of the lack of time. Dan Ortmeier should be included in the conversation as well.

I agree with Hondo. Not only was Pablo great from a skill standpoint, but he also injected the team with unbeleivable energy.
For #2--Although I loved Bowker and that sweet left-handed stroke, Pill is just one of those guys who makes you put down your beer and hotdog and pay 100% attention to the AB. Brett gets my vote.

Those asshole Giants (and Minor League Baseball) are going to make sure this franchise falls on its butt before those carpetbaggers send it South. Bumgarner no more deserves to be thrown into the middle of a pennant race than I do. This whole thing smells of conspiracy. Yesterday GB goes 6 innings and Garcia 3.So that leaves Snyder (who s/b in the bullpen) and Maday as Game 1 & 2 starters. This whole scenario reeks, it sucks big time, and I hope the Giant fall flat on their asses.

As far as the Defs go, I wouldn't be surprised if Louie knew about this yesterday. They should at least "man up" and give the folks who committed to play off tickets a chance to back out. But they won't, because the owner has the same amount of class (none whatsoever) as do the Giants.

As far as I'm concerned, I may just stay home and put a claim in with my credit card company that the promised goods were never delivered. Let Visa, the Defs, and the Giants argue the point.

I've vented a lot on this thread in the past, but I've never been so fucking mad as I am right now.

The reason why Bumgarner was called up was because the Giants starter Tim L. has a back spasm. He'll miss a few starts.

Craig Clark (16-2, 2.86 ERA, Cal League Pitcher of the Year) and Wilmin Rodriguez (4-1, 2.75 ERA, 3 SV) have been promoted to CT.

There wouldn't be a chance for the Defenders to either win the Northern Division Series or the EL Championship Series anyways because of course Akron is gonna beat the R-Phils 3 games to none and then beat the winners of the Northern Division Series 3 games to none as well.

If they knew yesterday, it should have been disclosed to the fans. Hondo is right. It's like buying tix to a Rolling Stones concert and then finding out the boys will be playing without Jagger. Of course, no disrespect to the rest of the team but damn he's certainly an important piece of the puzzle.

Nice, real nice....Clark for Bumgarner, piss off the SJ fans, piss off the CT fans who have always be expendable anyway, and mess up MadBum in the process. The Giants are beyond messed up.
Glad I got MadBum's auto yesterday on a baseball.
The pitching rotation: Clark, Synder, Maday and GB I guess.
Had a nice feeling walking out of Dodd yesterday too....

WOW

Just checked the Giant's recent transactions.

Matos, Sadowski, and English have been DFA'd this month. That clears some space on the 40 man. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more forthcoming. Bumgarner has already claimed one of the spots.
