Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Defs win 5-1 to end the 2009 regular season....

and win the last regular season game in franchise history as well. They beat the same team they opened at home against in 1995 the Reading Phillies. Now it's on to the playoffs for the first time since 2002.
It was a typical season closer game--if it's close, swing, and let's get the game over with.
Garrett Broshuis threw 6 solid innings to earn to the win and improves to 6-4 with a 3.84 ERA. He gave up 3 hits, one a solo homer and stuck out 7. GB has won his last three starts pitching 18.2 innings allowing just two earned runs.
Geivy Garcia pitched the last three innings to earn his first save of the season. He gave up just one hit and had 2 Ks.
CT held a 2-1 lead into the 8th inning on the strength of a Brandon Crawford RBI ground out and a Mike McBryde sac fly. The Defs broke the game open as Ramon Castro doubled, McBryde singled Castro in and then Brett Pill connected with his 19th HR of the season to make it 5-1 and bringing his EL RBI leading total to 109.
Ramon Castro goes 2 for 2 with that double and scores two runs.

Misc fan notes: Good to see LC as always. Brock Bond wins the EL batting crown hitting .333 (150 for 450). Brett Pill tops the EL leader board withthose 109 RBIs.
The team ties the franchise record for wins with 83. They finsh 83-59. 39-32 at Dodd and 44-27 on the road, best road record in the league.

Pics: The bullpen pic, (Bottom row left to right: Steve Calicutt, Joe Paterson, Shane Kaufman, and Matt Yourkin. Standing left to right: Byran Millikan, Cutter, Mitch Lively, Craig Whitaker, and Geivy Garcia.) GB, Pill's HR, and the last regular season score.

I am really confused about the pitching rotation. Using GB for 6 and Garcia for 3 today tells me that after Bumgarner, its going to be Snyder (which is ok) and Maday (which isn't ok with me). What the Hell is Decker thinking with Maday?

Defensfan, if you did indeed see Greg and LC today, I was the macho one with the best looking woman in the park sitting next to me.

I was wearing a Navigators 2002 home jersey. Hondo's description is also spot on.

it took me hours to get back to New Haven but was worth it. that brett pill dinger was awesome...two outs last of the 8th and mcbryde singles to give pill one last regular season at bat. pill knocks one out to give him 109 rbi's on the year. i had him sign a ball to me with the date and his rbi total on it which i'm pumped about. he's as good as any first baseman on the big club, in my opinion. .320 with runners in scoring position and he hit about the same against righties and lefties including homers per at bat.

garrett pitched a great game and had a good year in spite of getting jacked around by the organization. nice to see him with the 7k's today.

dfensfan you shoulda hollered at us!

great seeing everybody today, catch ya'll this week.

Thanks AR!

Great call by LC about Mike's hit to extend the inning for Pill. Section 11 was pretty pumped when that ball left the yard!
Monster seasons by Brock and Brett!
