Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team.
We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Mike McBryde...
Mike appeared in 90 games after being sent to CT from Fresno. He batted .308 (98 for 318) with 5 homers and 41 RBIs. Mike lead the team with 16 SBs. The center fielder also racked up more than a few outfield assists during the season with a bunch coming at home.
All of those team names are ridiculous. I don't like any of those names. All of them sound crappy! I think Virginia is the weirdest state with people (who are also weird) that come up with some awfully weird ideas that no one in other states would agree on. I bet the EL president Joe McEacharn won't like any of those names either.
Thanks bboy. AJ- Richmond Rhinos is an alliteration. Flatheads are a famous type of catfish that live in the James River right by Richmond. PS- None of this is ownership's fault so stop ripping on them.
I deleted my previous comment because I mis-spoke and don't want to appear to be pointing the finger at the wrong people. My bad.
I get the alliteration thing with rhinos- my entries used it as well. I was just joking because they said they wanted the name to reflect Richmond culture. They say they wanted weird, well, they got it, so I'm looking at it with warped humor now. Personally, I'm pulling for Flying Squirrels. I was all about Hambones at first, but it has a few bad connotations, so I support the Squirrels instead. Plus it's the easiest to market and merchandise.

So that's what he looks like! Nice picture, Greg. Who could forget those great throws to home plate - right on the money!

Well, for once Im almost speechless. Here are the five finalists for the Richmond nickname.
1) Flatheads
2) Flying Squirrels
3) Hambones
4) Rock Hoppers
5) Rhinos
Why not just call them what they are.... Carpetbaggers?
