Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team.
We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....
An update from SF Dugout (Brute) on Villona. It's in line with what a couple of you mentioned. This info comes from the Giants Dominican rep.
Villona's US Visa has been revoked. He paid the victim's family 55K initially and another 83K when he made bail. Bail cost him 14K. The victim's family considers the 138K "compensation" for the killing. They did request that charges be dropped. The prosecutor is going forward on the murder charge and the trial should begin next month.
This raises a couple of issues for me.
1) Is the victim's family so destitute to put a value on the life of a family member? I know it's a lot of money, probably a lifetime annuity, but it's almost making them an accomplice.
2) By making the payment, isn't Villona making himself look guilty as charged?
He's looking at 20 years in a Dominican jail. I'll bet a Dominican jail makes Attica look like kindergarten.
I'm finding myself not feeling remorse for Angel or the victim's family.
I had a question regarding the prosecution's case now that the family of the victim has dropped the charges. From what I remember, so much of this case is based on what the bystanders, or whatever you want to to call them, said. Will the family of the victim testify against Angel now or can they even? Without that testimony, you wonder how much of a case they even have. Or another question - will Angel buy off the prosecutor and/or the judge? So much corruption. I totally agree with you - how can you even put a monetary amount on your son's life? But I guess they figure he's gone, who cares about justice, we can live a nice life now with that money. What a disgusting way to live.
