Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Different day, different blues..rain out blues....

as today's game against the SI Yankees is washed out. Some odds and ends then....

The current baseball book lineup looks like this:

I'm currently reading "Wild and Outside" by Stafan Fatsis. It chronicles the revival of the indy Northern League in 1993 to the upper Midwest and Canada. The book spotlight's the league's second season in 1994.

On deck:

"Minor Players, Major Dreams" by Brett H. Mandel. The author convinced the newly formed Ogden Raptors of the short season Pioneer League in 1994 to join the team and write about it.

in the hole: "Odd Man Out, A Year on the Mound with a Minor League Misfit" by Matt McCarthy. The author's account of his season in 2002 with the Provo Angels also of the Pioneer League. The team is now known as the Orem Owlz.

Note to the front office: OpSail is coming to New London in 2012; most likey the second weekend of July. DON'T schedule any games that weekend, exert whatever powers you have with the league's schedulemakers. Everyone will be down on the docks like they were in 2000!

Very nice article in today's Hartford Courant about a Connecticut Tigers host family. The Nadeau family of Plainfield is host to four players: Tyson Kendrick, Ryan Soares, Josh Ashenbrenner and James Robbins. Great experience and memories for all concerned. The minor league baseball experience can turn out to be a very special one if you can take can couple of extra steps.

Spend some time on the Tigers web site and check out the photo galleries. The team has Kevin Pataky doing the pictures this season and the pictures are great. Pataky's photos can be found at the milb.com site, Baseball American, the 2010 CT Tigers card set and elsewhere. Google him; plenty of links and info....
