Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

Owen's right, up to a point. Norwich was a training ground, test site, whatever you want to call it. And we did indeed watch players begin to grow into what they are today.

But let's be fair, other than Pablo, what position player came here and looked like a can't miss. Nate & Freddie Lewis..no, Bowker & Velez... maybe, TI, Hell some of us wanted to run him out of Norwich with EME. To his credit though, TI's last year gave a Giant fan hope.

We did see a ton of pitchers who ended up in the Bigs, if not with SF, with another team. Some thrived, some bit the dust. Sadly, my all time fav, Pat Misch, may soon join the latter group.

Owen neglected to mention that a fan could see prospects from other franchises. Look at how many current Red Sox came through Portland.

Finally, all the back and forth about why fans stayed away has arguable points. The one I will never buy is the affiliation. Affiliation has nothing to do with attendance. I mean, how many Twins fans are in New Britain and surrounding area? And if I recall, when the Red Sox were in NB, their attendance was close to being last in the league.

Over the past 10, probably more like 12 years I have witnessed the likes of players such as.
Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Joe Mauer, Michael Cuddyer, Francisco Liriano, Papelbon, Hanley, Pedroia, Freddy Sanchez (back with Trenton), Cody Ross (With Bowie), Matt Cain, Pablo, Brian Wilson, Victor Martinez, Brandon Phillips, Marcus Thames (yes I remember him despite being 8 or 9 years old when he was at Dodd), Robinson Cano, Joba, Hughes, Kennedy, Melky Cabrera, Cliff Lee, Asdrubal Cabrera, Daniel Bard, etc.

and I know I am forgetting many names. Pretty much, if he played at Dodd, either for us, or against us, despite being young in age, I will have seen him them play and I'm sure Greg and others have as well and we can say we watched "such and such" MLB star, play way back when he was in the Minors.
