Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team.
We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....
Watching the Brewer-Dodger spring training game on MLB offered a bit of a shocker. But before I go there, I have to say the telecast gave me the opportunity to experience one of the games true remaining gems, Vin Scully. His matter of fact way of broadcasting hasn't changed one iota since Red Barber trained him in Brooklyn. Unlike today's announcer's, Scully presents the game, a myriad of facts concerning players, and a host of other information in a low ket tone, while never missing anything going on in the field of play. I never have, nor will I ever like the Dodgers, but I will always enjoy a Scully broadcast when the opportunity presents itself.
Now , as to the shocker, Ex Nav player Marcus (SP?) Thames, according to Scully, will soon celebrate his 34th birthday. Good God, does getting older make time go faster or what! It seems like only two or three seasons ago he was roaming the outfield at Dodd as a young prospect.
Vin Scully is a gem. 61 years with the Dodgers! Not many like him left these days...if any.
Marcus Thames hit his first MLBB homer off Randy Johnson; remember it like it was yesterday. But Hondo's right, when you look at the calendar and then see how far in the past that yesterday was..
