Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

"There aren’t excuses any more,”......

which is the quote by CT Tigers GM Andrew Weber in today's front page article by Joe Perez (see below).

And I couldn't agree more...but I'd add the same goes to a degree for the baseball fans of southeastern Connecticut.

After a year plus at New Britain, I now understand how they do it. All youth groups. Week nights, week ends, school nights, summer vacation. If the gates are open, the kids are there. By the end of the 7th inning, it's a Dodd crowd of a thou or two. Now, according to Joe, they are getting the some of the youth from Dodd territory.

Another difference between NB and Norwich is season ticket holders. My guess is NB has about 1000 more season ticket holders then the Defs had.

For the life of me I can't see how the Tigers are going to approach whatever number of fans they need to achieve success. A lousy economy, organized baseball's lowest level, a home schedule crammed into 8 or 9 weeks. It's a tough gig.

I hope they can find a way to be successful from a selfish point of view. Outside of the old Polo Grounds, Dodd has become a personal favorite for watching a game.
