Some pics of Game 3 starter Jonathan Sanchez...
that have not seen the light of day in this space until now. Sanchez was the starter and loser in this game against the SeaDogs on April 9, 2006, a 4-2 Defenders loss. That's 3B and future Twin #18 Brian Buscher and fan fav SS #6 Jake Wald in one picture.
Sanchez was moved to the Defenders bullpen later in the month and then jumped to SF with TI in May for a brief stay. and the pictures of this start are the only ones I have of him.

CT Tigers will have a new manager in 2011...
as Andrew Graham, (28 yrs old!) will take over from Howie Bushong. For more details check out Steve Hamel's blog "The Connecticut Tiger Den" ...the link is to the right.
Well, as is sometimes the case, the big pitching matchup doesn't go the way we would think as the Giants outlasted the Rangers last night 11-7 ib SF. Nate and TI knock in runs with Romo and Wilson taking the mound...a pretty good night for ex Navs and Defs.

2011 Tigers schedule is released....
thanks to Defsfan for the heads up. The season breaks down with 5 home games in June, 13 home games in July, 16 home games in August and all 4 Sept dates are at home.
Game start times are the same as last year with 7:05 Monday thru Saturday and 1:05 on Sundays. There is a camp day scheduled for Monday July 25 at 12:05 (I sense I'll be off that day.)
Like this past season, the 2011 schedule is kind of heavy in August/Sept with home games.
From the team's site: "The Tigers will play five Friday night games during the summer of 2011, as well as seven Saturdays and seven Sundays. Some notable series include July 2 - July 3 against the Lowell Spinners; July 9 -July 11 against the Brooklyn Cyclones; August 17 - August 19 against the Staten Island Yankees; and September 2 - September 4 against the Lowell Spinners."
Some other things I noticed when looking at the schedule is that Vermont changed affiliates from the National to the Athetics and Auburn changed from the Blue Jays to the Nationals.
Mahoning Valley, Auburn and State College will not be appearing at Dodd in '11.

RIP Freddy.........
Yankee superfan 'Freddy Sez' dead
From the Daily Post
Sunday, October 17, 2010
"Fred "Freddy Sez" Schuman, a Yankee Stadium staple for the last 20 years, has died, according to a report at NYDailyNews.com. The report says a friend, Chuck Frantz confirmed Fred Schuman's death. He was believed to be 85.
Schuman died at Lenox Hill Hospital on Sunday afternoon after suffering a heart attack on Friday night, according to EspnNewYork.com. A hospital official confirmed Schuman's death, the report said.
At almost every Yankee game, Schuman could be seen outside Yankee Stadium with his daily message for the Yanks and a frying pan he banged like a drum. He also let other fans bang it as well.
He became such an institution that his lucky frying pan and spoon, thanks to Frantz, were put into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Yogi Berra museum in 2004.
Schuman also had his own website, freddysez.com, complete with a Freddy FAQ.

From the Hartford Sports Examiner website...
"It may have been just a silly prank to whoever is responsible, but the Connecticut Tigers aren’t treating it as a joke. The New York-Penn League team donated three authentic grey baseball jerseys and pants—the jerseys adorned with the numbers 56, 58 and 59—to the Leffingwell House Museum in Norwich, where three scarecrows decked out with the Tigers’ garb were on display on the front lawn to help raise funds and awareness for the museum by participating in the “Celebrate Fall Scarecrow Display & Art Installation.”
But at some time in the wee hours of Wednesday night/Thursday morning, all three scarecrows were stolen by an individual or group of individuals.
“We’re a part of this community and wanted to show our support and thanks to all of our wonderful fans that came out to Dodd Stadium to cheer on the Tigers this summer,” said Tigers General Manager Andrew Weber. “The Leffingwell House Museum is a fantastic place that has a rich history and we’re thrilled to be a partner of theirs.”
The Tigers are asking that the scarecrows (and, of course, the jerseys and pants) be returned with no questions asked. They can be dropped off at Dodd Stadium or at the Leffingwell House Museum.
“This really is a shame,” continued Weber. “Talent-wise, these were some of the best scarecrows we have seen in years. They could also really fill out a uniform.”
Octoberfest!
While the East Side Restaurant may be home to the most popular Octoberfest celebration in Connecticut, the New Britain eatery and pub doesn’t have a lock on all the festivities. In conjunction with the Arts & Heritage Weekend being held throughout the greater Norwich area, the Tigers will be holding an Octoberfest & Chili Cook-Off this Saturday from 1-5 p.m. The event will feature live music from Second Round Knockout and over 75 of the finest craft beers the Northeast has to offer. Tickets are on sale at Dodd Stadium and on-line at cttigers.com. This is a 21 and over event, with proper I.D. required."
Nice line from Andrew....now if those were grey Defenders uniforms.....
