Thoughts and pictures of my local minor league baseball team the New York Penn League Connecticut Tigers; a Detriot farm team. We'll still be looking at former Navigators/Defenders players along the way....

MLBB attendance....

I know it's a holiday but I'm spinning the channels around between the games in Baltimore, NY (Mets), Detroit and Chicago (Cubs) and only Wrigley is semi-full. Camden Yards would be empty if wasn't for the Yankee fans who showed up. Economy and gas prices...the Easter Holiday...the fact it's just easier watching in HD at home...???

greg's Navs hat dance....

I mean really, I've heard before I can have a swollen head but this is nuts. You can only wear one at a time right? In case you're wondering I have far less Defs and Tigers caps.
All the Navs caps save two are from the Yankee days of the Navigators. Four of these are player worn, four of them were promos, two were purchased and one was a gift. The oldest (1996) is the one in front with the green bill. It's the one I'm pictured wearing on the front of this blog. That cap and the 10 year anniversary cap I'm forbidden to wear in public with my wife because they are both so sweat stained and dirty from near daily wear. I have a Defs cap that is joining that club soon.

UCONN draws 1400+ fans to New Britain yesterday for the Good Friday DH sweep. Lousy weather yesterday and the rest of the weekend looks lousy too.

UCONN at New Britain to play a DH today...

curious as to how they draw. It was to be a single game at 6PM today but with rain in the forecast for Saturday a DH was created with the first game starting at 2PM. The Courant has been running ads all this week and the sports page today features UCONN star George Springer who is projected as a first round draft pick. Pictured is UCONN star LJ Mazzilli, son of Lee Mazzilli, who managed the Navigators once upon a time, in addition to being a MLBB player for both the Mets and Yanks and a big league skipper.
UCONN will be playing a pair of games at Dodd in May.

Now catching for the Minn. Twins....

in the wake of Joe Mauer going on the DL, the one time Defender and SF Giant, was called up by the Twins yesterday. Holm signed with the Twins during the off season. I'm pretty sure I have a Holm Defs jersey somewhere...

What a difference a couple of years make....

I mean back in 2009 I'm sure for the first Friday night game at Dodd LC, Hondo and me probably would have retreated up to the warmth of Lou's lounge to escape the cold by now. Anyway they got 9500+ for the home opener in Richmond last night...

Flash went 1 or 2 with a RBI as his Mississippi Braves beat EME's Jackson Generals 9-3 last night in Southern League play. Now that's justice....
The West Michigan Whitecaps, home to many of last seasons Ct Tigers were postpoded for the second striaght day

RockCats selling tickets at 50% off for Home Opener...

via Groupon (see below offer that landed in my email box). Not the first time NB has deeply discounted tickets; last season they were offering 50% in the New London Day. I guess there's a couple of ways at looking at this. First the RockCats are embracing social media has a ticket selling outlet and are using the discount as a loss leader for additional sales in better weather. Second, ticket sales are slow for the opener and this is one way of pumping it up...
Wondering if the Tigers will go this route...

"Babe Ruth was nicknamed "The Colossus of Trout" because his skills on the field derived from summers spent fishing the old-fashioned way––with a baseball bat and shallow water. Earn an epithet of your own with today's Groupon: for $10, you get two field-box tickets to the home opener for the New Britain Rock Cats, as they play the Portland Sea Dogs at New Britain Stadium on Thursday, April 14 at 6:05 p.m."

And in other news Daryl Maday is the opening day pitcher for Richmond as the Eastern League begins play today.
